In 2011-2013, we provided on-page search optimization and backlink building for Hotels operator at Mauritius, Oteli Mavrikiy.ru – a Russian localization of its English version.
Our specialist offered solutions and consultancy for site navigation, domain names (there were several in .ru zone) and metatags. Our SEO included keyword research and competitors overview. We rewrote and added more info to some of the pages on the website to improve keyword density and make them more attractive for visitors and robots.
As we provided SEO for Yandex natural SERP, we carefully prepared the website for submission, monitored the indexing process with Yandex Webmaster Tools, offered improvements on the structure and navigation according to Yandex demands. Yandex needs only natural backlinks so we built about 80 quality backlinks and submitted 25% to webmaster.yandex.ru/addurl.xml.
Some social media marketing was also involved. Vkontakte.ru , Twitter and Ya.ru accounts were set up. If socializing continues it might bring new visitors.
Soon 220 pages of the site were indexed by Yandex, 31 excluded for technical reasons, 184 stayed in the search. 210 backlinks from 56 websites were indexed. Website was visible in Yandex upon low-frequency quieries, mostly names of Mauritius hotels +”маврикий”.

CTR in Yandex for the same week made 0.8% (4 clicks for 25 impressions)
Here is a search engine “pie” from Yandex.Metrika, demonstrating that still the main bulk of the visitors arrived from Google and it’s Russian affiliate mail.ru whilst Yandex enjoyed only 21% of the pie. Otelimavrikiy. ru had not been geotargeted in Yandex (as it wanted visitors from all over Russia), so it was hard to say whether Yandex could significantly improve it’s share very soon.
The websited on Mauritius closed down in 2019 by the owner of the business.
